Daisy
Daisy’s seizures first appeared as small twitches and jerks in late 2024. Her family, knowing Daisy to be a unique character, initially dismissed it as just part of her personality. However, by February 2025, these mild jerks escalated into full-blown drop attacks, myoclonic-atonic seizures, and absence seizures, occurring more than 80 times a day during her wake periods.
During an EEG, Daisy was recorded having four myoclonic-atonic seizures along with multifocal interictal epileptiform activity, leaving her brain with only about three minutes of rest in a 30-minute test.
These results led to her diagnosis of EMAS (Epilepsy with Myoclonic Atonic Seizures), also known as Doose Syndrome.

Since the diagnosis, Daisy’s family has experienced sadness, grief, and uncertainty. The wide range of possible outcomes and the unpredictability of the condition make it hard to know where to turn next. Her parents often find themselves worried about what Daisy’s future holds.
Despite starting anti convulsants, her seizures remain drug-resistant, and Daisy’s cognitive and emotional development have been impacted. Her attention span is minimal, and the emotional highs and lows add new challenges to her daily life, compounded by concerns about the potential long-term effects of medication.
Though still early in their journey, Daisy’s family remains hopeful, knowing they still have many options ahead. They find strength in their gratitude for having a happy and capable child, confident she will overcome these challenges.

Daisy has always been described as pure joy—a little human who lights up any room with her infectious smile and social charm. She’s capable of making anyone smile just by being herself, using her natural ability to talk to everyone, much to the amusement of her socially awkward parents.
However, her seizures have stolen some of those joyful moments. Daisy now occasionally drops to the ground or loses her grip on objects, looking around in confusion, often thinking those nearby have caused her distress, which can lead to frustration and tears.
Despite the difficult road ahead, Daisy’s family remains committed to the fight, holding onto the belief that they will find a way forward. “We are fighting a good fight,” says Daisy's mum, “and I know we will get there in the end, but we’re also kind of just a little lost and stressed right now, but that’s okay too”.
